The news that at last the contract for erect'ng the bridge over the Tiraumea River at Ngaturi has been let will be welcome indeed to the settlers of Makuri. The matter has dragged on for so long a time that those interested had almost reconciled themselves to the prospect of another winter of isolation and inconvenience, but the acceptance of the tender of Messrs Morley and Fraser should revive their drooping spirits. The contractors intend commencing operations almost
immediately and are hopeful of being able to havo the piers completed before the winter laius have b< gun to swell the river. Their determination to push the work on with as much expedition as possible will earn nmi itssl to all who are compelled to cross the river.
