Friday. A very heavy thunderstorm passed over hero to-day. I understand that some persons gained entrance into the Eketahuna Hotel and stole the cash box, from which they extracud about £6. The thieves also paid a visit to tho Alfrcdton Hotel, and got a haul there. Mr Heaton, of the Pah Valley, had his whare broken into and some money and other things stolen. Sunday. We are having some very heavy showers here to-day, which will make it very bad for grass-seeding. There is a lot of seed cut about here, and the weather will stop thrashing operations for a few days. In fact lam afraid the seed will bo spoilt. The contractors for delivering metal for the main road commenced last Monday and are making very good progress.
A dead trout weighing 24lbs was picked up by some boys on Sunday in a creek running through Mr C. Edward's property on Carisbrook road. Several live ones of a similar size have been seen in the same creek lately. This is the creek in which Mr W. Tosswill placed some ova about three years ago. Mrs P. A fact worthy of record : About a fortnight ago a settler's house caught fire from burning logs. The house was insured in the Alliance Insurance Company. Tho owner made upplicalon to .ho local agents, who promptly made investigation re claim made, and as promptly paid the reasonable amount claimed. Now that is business. Tho Band’s concert lakes place next Wednesday evening in the schoolroom and promise to be a great treat. There is some rumor of asking fora .-••& post tel- gr tnil office for this town.
