Me Kensie, M.H.K., asked if any regulation evicted preventing children attending school baiefnoted, and receiving a reply in the negative, said an instance of children sent home because they had no boots had come under his notice. Several members thought it a very good thing to sev children going to school barefooted. \\ klun'.ion, This bay. The Wellington Trades aud Labour Council has decided to form a worker political league on similar lines to the Dunedin body. The league will consist of labor and liberal organisations in the city, and is for the purpose of guarding the interests of the people generally in matters political a deputation from the Couucll u to wait ou the Minister of tabor with reference to labtfr legislation to be introduced next session, and speciality urging the introduction of a Masters' and Apprentices bill. 1 lie Council decided it could not join with the Progressive Liberal Association of Canterbury in pro testing again-I further appointments to Legislative Council, as it considered an increase in that Chamber necessary to secure the enactment of liberal and labor legislation. The Council viawed with alarm the great influx of Assyrian and Asiastic alien* to the colony, and suggested a very heavy poll tax should be imposed on them. At the committee of the Friendly Society Guarantee Association's annual meeting Mr J. Edwards, secretary, presented a favorable report and balance sheet show ing an increase of fund for 1893 «>f £1.16. After defraying all expenses the total fund at the end of 1893 were £579, policies on register IK), free policies are to lx issued for 1H93 to associate bodies. No tenders have been received for floating off the Jessie Redman at present, and if none are forthcoming tho ship will probably ta put up to auction. The girl Li/./.ie Price, who was charged with the murder of her newly born child at Otaki on December 9th, has been committed for trial. Bail was allowed in two sureties of £IOO. Auckland. This Day.
