ALLEGATION OF THEFT
AN ACCOUNTANT CHARGED. WELLINGTON, June 24. Arrested yesterday, Archibald Walter M‘Coll, aged 47, an accountant, was charged in the Magistrate’s Court today, before Mr E. Page, S.M., with stealing money amounting to £735, the property of New Zealand Roads, Ltd. (in liquidation, No. 3 account). A remand was granted till Wednesday. It was stated that the amount involved would be about £l6OO, and the police would be ready to proceed with the case on Wednesday. Bail was allowed without opposition. An application was made for suppression of the accused’s name on the plea that M‘Coll had been negotiating a business settlement on behalf of his wife, and if his name was published the settlement would be seriously prejudiced, and the other party concerned would be in a position to dictate. His wife was not a business woman, and the amount involved in the settlement was £2OOO.
The magistrate said he was not pre pared to make an order.
