RETURNED SOLDIERS’ ASSOCIATION
MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. A meeting of the Executive Committee of the Dunedin Returned Soldiers’ Association was held on Wednesday evening, and was attended by Messrs P. S. Anderson (president). A. MTlutchon, J. G. Adair, J. F. Cardno, A. S. Falconer. J. S. Skinner, A. Leeden. A. Thomas. W. F. Forrester. H. L. Paterson, A. J. Gordon, and G. H. Ferens. The nominations of 15 new members and one honorary member and one trans fer outwards were approved. The report of the Social Committee stated that it had been decided to recommend that the usual “at home” should not be held this year in view of the economic conditions and the amount of distress among returned soldiers. A subcommittee had been set up to go into the question of holding monthly social meetings for the next four months. The committe recommended that the directors of the Y.M.C.A. be written to suggesting tiiat a deputation from the executive should meet them to discuss matters concerning unemployed returned soldiers.— The report was adopted. The secretary reported that the membership of the Dunedin Association was 1188. and of the Christchurch Association 1119. It was also reported that the proceeds of Poppy Day had been £lB7B Us 4d. The secretary reported that he had presented 21 cases before the War Pensions Appeal Board, and of these 12 had been successful. —The chairman said that in view' of the fact that some of the cases had been very difficult the result spoke volumes for the work put into them by the secretary.
