NEW ZEALAND STUD SHEEP

JAPAN WANTS CORRIEDALES WELLINGTON, February 9. Two representatives, of the Japanese Government —Messrs K. Hatakeyama and Y. Ono —accompanied by Mr K. Shimada. agent for Nosawa and Co., Tokio, arrived by the Maunganui to-day. Their mission is to buy stud sheep for the Japanese Government. For 15 years Japan has been regularly buying sheep in Australia, and has now decided to extend her activities to New Zealand. Mr Shimada said they would buy Corriedales only, as they are the most suitable for Japanese conditions. They intended to buy about 300, and, if suitable, it was likely that all buying in future would be confined to New Zealand.

He refused to comment on the SinoJapanese trouble, beyond saying that a great deal of propaganda had been published.
