SHEEP DOG NOTES.

Dear “ Terror,”- —In view of the near approach of the eo-Ilie dog trial season, I wish to point out the aims of the newly formed South Island Championship Association and the benefits derived from same. Although all clubs have been circularised, the general publie interested do not seem to know of its existence. A meeting was- held at Timaru last October comprised of delegates from Otago, Southland, and Canterbury Provincial Associations, when it was decided to form a South 'lsland Championship Association. The first championship trials were offered to the Hakataramea Club,, being the oldest club in the South Island or perhaps in New Zealand, and having both bus and railway communication, with plenty of good accommodation, and one of the best trial grounds in NewZealand. This offer has been accepted, and the trials will be held in the second week in June, and where the 1933 trials will be held will be decided at the next annual meeting of delegatee. Three judges are to be appointed by ballot by the provincial associations —one each from Canterbury, Otago, and Southland—to judge independently and the aggiegate of their pointe to decide the winning dogs. Prize moneys for the year are to be £l5, £l6, £5, £3, £2, and £1 — six prizes in each event; besides trophies (three cups already promised). The trials will constitute long pull (half-mile), short pull and yard (about 500 yards), and huntaway (about half a mile through three sete of flags). AH clubs were to be circularised and asked to make an extra charge of sixpence per dog on all open events, and forward same to the secretary, Mr James W. M’Lean, Coronet Peaks Station, Queenstown. This charge is made by the New Zealand Championship Association, and found to be the best way to finance the ehampionships. It was further decided that a« soon as the association was on a sound financial footing it would not hoard moneye, but help to develop the provincial aseocia- ; tions.

Anyone wanting further information should write the secretary or myself, who will be pleased to inform them.—l am, etc,.

Robt. W. Tkotteb, President, South Island Sheep Dog Association.
