The facilities for handling cargo at Auckland and Wellington are equal to the standard of port equipment in Europe, according to the secretary of the Wellington Harbour Board (Mr A. G. Barnett), who returned by the Rangitiki from England. During a visit to Newcastle-on-Tyne he saw the launching of Wellington’s great floating dock, which cost £200,000. It is now being towed to he Dominion. Mr Barnett said he was impressed with the immense amount of idle tonnage wherever he went.
