Delhi has at last decided to get rid of its monkeys. These animals, which ar a sacred, and, therefore, invade streets and bazaars with impunity, have always been a pest, but proposals to drive them out of the city have invariably been resisted. However, in desperation, the municipality has contracted with a monkey-catcher to catch and deport the animals to a distance of not less than 50 miles. He is to render the city “practically free” in two years, and his contract lasts for 10 years. He is required to capture the monkeys without harming them, and to see that they are cared for and properly fed until they are liberated again.
