RACING INQUIRY

CORRUPT PRACTICE PROVED JOCKEYS SEVERELY PUNISHED. AUCKLAND, October 6. After a very exhaustive inquiry, the Auckland District Committee found that L. H. Wat.on, H. E. Goldfinch, F. R. Poster, and K. V. Gill, jockeys who rode in the Auckland Hack Handicap, run at a meeting held by the Franklin Racing Club on March 7. committed a breach of rule 293 (1), and were guiff of a corrupt and fraudulent practice within the meaning of rule 351 (1) (n) of the Rules of Racing by conspiring to permit and assist the horse Royal Survey to win the said Auckland Hack Handicap, and it was resolved that the said L. H. Watson be disqualified for life, H. E. Goldfinch be disqualified for 12 months, F. R. Foster be disqualified for 12 months, and K. V. Gill be disqualified for three years as from October 6. 1931. The committee further found that there was not sufficient evidence to prove R. S. Bagby and H. E. Gray, who also rode in the race, guilty of being associated with the conspiracy.
