CLUB SEASONS OPENED w;tlle ssed the opening of the ISMI-1932 season by several of the Dunedin and suburban bowling clubs, and while the light rain that fell in the eailier Pjift of the afternoon precluded the possibility of much play on any of the greens it in nowise damped the enthusiasm af the proceedings. CALEDONIAN. There was a large attendance of members and friends at the Caledonian oieen where the opening ceremony was Performed by the president of the club (Mr L. Edwards). Edwards reminded those present *• ,c dub was entering on its fiftytliird season, and in extending a welcome to the visiiors, expressed pleasure at having with them a representative of the Dominion Bowling Council in the person of Mr A. J. Sullivan, and Mr J. A. X eitch, the Dunedin Centre's representative. lie wished to thank all those yno had assisted in arranging the opening function especially the ladies, who, throughout the year, had rendered the club much valuable service. At Air Edwatdss request those present then stood in silence for a moment as a mark of respect to the memory of Messrs William Sniith, A. Polwartb, D. Hutchison, A. Marshall. D. Scolt. and T. AFTigue, exmembers who had died during the year. Mr ' eitch on behalf of the Dunedin Centre, wished the club a successful season, and said that his duty that day '' ,l * rendered doubly pleasant by the fact that lie was an old member of the Caledonian Club and had learned to play bowls on its green. At the conclusion of Air Stabb’s remarks the usual tribute was paid to the memory of six deceased members— Messrs XV. G Hay, XV. F. Sligo. J. Al I eak, XX Rogerson, Allan Marshall, and H. Maxwell. After Air H. Rowley had conveyed to the club the Dunedin Centre's best wishes tor a successful season, Mrs Stabb rolled up the first bowl, and Air Stabb declared the season open. lhe beautiful floral decorations on tho taWc-s were much admired. Mr Lock briefly welcomed the large number of visitors and members present, and extended his and the club’s thanks to the ladies who had gone to so much trouble to arrange the decorations in the pavilion. He congratulated the green sujiervisor on toe first-class green he had prepared, and he hoped that the members would make the best use of it during the coining season. _ Mr E. Tamblyn represented the Dunedin Centre at the function, and after conveying greetings from that body, he wished the club a successful season. Airs Lock rolled up the first bowl, and Mr Lock officially declared the green open tor the 1931-1932 season. Hie pavilion was beautifuly and tastefully decorated in the club’s colours —blue and gold—daffodils and blue hyacinths predominating. BALAIACEWEN. The opening ceremony of the Balmacewen Chib's season was performed in conjunction with the opening function of the Balmacewen Croquet Club, Air A. XV. Macdonald, president of the Bowling Club, officiating at the former function and Mr A. Riacli at the latter. Air Alacdonald wished the members a happy and successful season, his remarks being supported by Air J. Read, who was present as representative of the Dunedin Centre. Alessrs XV. Connor (West Harbour), XV. Anderson (Dunedin), XXL Hinton (St. Kilda), W. Thomson (Logan Park), and G. L. Lothian (Kaikorai) were present, and on behalf of their respective clubs extended good wishes for a successful season for Balmacewen Club, and also congratulated the club on the appearance of the green. Air H. Hogg supplied appropriate music during the afternoon. The decorations of the tables were much admired, and reflected great credit on tho ladies of the club who were responsible for this work. Prior to Air Alacdonald’s declaring the season open, the first bowl was rolled up by Airs Alacdonald. GREEN ISLAND CLUB. The opening ceremony at the Green Island Bowling Club’s green on Saturday attracted a large attendance of members and visitors, the president of the club (Air J. Nelson) presiding. In declaring the green open for play Air Nelson extended a welcome to the visitors, and expressed the hope that the coming season would be a highly successful one for the club. Aire Nelson then rolled the first bowl, after which play was carried on until stopped by the rain.
