A proposal to manufacture New Zealand wool packs from flax grown locally has created much interest recently, and a sample of a pack presented to the meeting of the council of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce was studied closely 7 (says the Christchurch Times). It was stated that it was estimated that such a pack could be made at a price of about 3s 6d to the grower, compared with 3s 2d for the imported jute pack. The value to the flax industry of such a scheme of manufacture was stressed, and it was stated ahat the unemployment position in this country would be relieved to a considerable extent. The' chamber, after discussion, took no action in the matter.
