NORTH OTAGO. South Canterbury avenged the defeat suffered at Oamaru at the hands of North Otago last month in no mistakable manner by admnistering a severe trouncing to the North Otago senior representatives at Timaru on Saturday to the tune of 38 points to 10. South Canterbury was a much improved side to that which visited Oamaru, and overwhelmed its opponents with dazzling passing movements which left the defence nonplussed, while in the opinion of some critics the North Otago team was not truly representative of football in this district. A steady rain set in at the commencement of the game, but until the play developed into a scramble in the mud in the second spell, the handling of the South Canterbury backs was exceptionally good under the circumstances. Strang played a brilliant game, ’and left the North Otago inside backs standing, making many fine openings for his speedy wingers. The teams taking the field were:— South Canterbury (Green and Black). —L. Connelly. B. Trotter, A. Gaffaney, T. Alorrison, C. Cartwright, W. A. Strang, A. Provan. D. Gray, H. Graham, S. Cremins, R. Seaton, G. Giddings, W. Duke, D. Callanan, F. Shewin. North Otago (Black, Alaroon and Gold). —G. Taylor, C. Diver, J. Grainger, H. Kent, A. Gillies, T. Trevathan, G. Gaffaney, A. Clark, S.
