Scott), 72 and 68—140 points .. 4 Mr White said that he had vivid recollection of his previous visit to Dunedin, when he had heard some good choirs and had also ha'd the privilege of conducting them. That was a pleasure to which he often looked back. Very good test pieces had been chosen on this occasion for the capabilities of the choirs. In the “Border Ballad ” there had been one or two alterations in the text, of which he did not approve. They had evidently been made with the idea of rendering the words more respectable. The “ Border Ballad " called for vigorous treatment, while “ Sleep, Gentle Lady ” was a delicate and quiet number, calling for great delicacy of expression. There had been a tendency on the part of some choirs to be rather jerky in their accents and releases in the “ Border Ballad.” He had been agreeably surprised with the quality of the male voices. He thought, taking the choirs altogether, that the male voices had been superior in quality to the female. That was an unusual experience. DANCING Judge: Miss Iris Edmonds (Christchurch).
