DAPHNE MEZEREUM
HOW TO PROPAGATE. I see you have suggested to “ Anxious," Sheffield (writes G. H. C., Mansfield, in Amateur Gardening) that he propagate Daphne Mezereum by seeds. May I suggest a quicker method ? Take off a branch of daphne, anything up to 15in in length, in September, and place in water. Do not add clean water as the old evapor--ates, but when the contained supply becomes slimy plant the branch in a sandy soil, and it will root. I always place a fair-sized stone on the roots of newlyplanted cuttings, on the north sidj in winter to protect from the wind, and hold them fast until established, and on the south in summer to hold the m ffsture and protect from the sun.
