One of the tests of the financial depression in the United States is the frantic effort being made by proprietors of eating houses to regain dwindling custom. “ All you want to eat for cash,” is the new slogan in New York and Chicago, as the price of food-stuffs scales downwards. Of course prices vary in different restaurants but one proprietor is offering an immense meal for 2s 6d. A dinner of 40 courses, with 71 items on the menu, may be had for that"price, with no extra charge, for extra helpings This huge, meal is part of the “ Eat more meat ” campaign. Meat is cheaper in the United States than it has been for over 20 years, and fantastic processions to encourage people to buy more of it are being held in the chief cities. A giant parade of live stock, among which were interspersed bathing beauties, bands, meat displays, pretty girls leading lambs, and 5000 waitresses and 1500 cowboys, made a procession three miles long in one of the American cities.
