No. 3 i Lie Churns walked on through the forest and soon came to a quaint old town. They strode through the cobbled streets and many people stopped and stared at them. At length Teddy and Golly came in sight of the sea. Advancing in the distance were ancient ships, with guns poking their noses out of the portholes. Near the pier of the town was a bowling green on which a number of men were playing. The Chums stole up to hear what they were saying. “ The Spaniards! Bah! We will blow them out of the seas!” said one man. “ But, Sir Francis ” began another. “No buts, my friend!” interrupted Drake, for it was he—Sir Francis Drake, the tales of whose bravery have filled a thousand books. “ I wish I had my autograph album with me," whispered Golly. “ I’d_ get Sir Francis Drake to sign his name. But we’d better go, or they'll want to know who we are. Perhaps make us join the navy, and fighting Spaniards is not in my line!” The Chums passed on, and walked a long way before they espied a hill on whose side was a wonderful old castle. “ More adventure, I think.” cried Teddy, and he was right.
