• The P°st and Telegraph Department is installing a low-power short-wave transmitting wireless machine in Whangarei as an emergency method of keeping connection with other centres in case of • damage to the overhead wires by bad weather or other forces. This is in conformity with the department’s policy, and similar installations are being made in other ce, itre«. The Whangarei unit will be interlocking with sets installed. The gift of two stamps issued by the Capt.ain Scott Antarctic Expedition in 1913 was intimated to the Auckland Institute and Museum Council recently bv the director (Mr Gilbert Archey). The stamps, which are of the face value of id and Id respectively, are of the desk" in use in New Zealand at the time, and are over-printed with the words “Victoria Land.” They were presented bv Captain Francis Drake, who acted as postmaster of the expedition.
