LABOUR REPRESENTATION COMMITTEE

MONTHLY MEETING. The Otago Labour Representation Committee held its monthly meeting in the Trades Hall on Thursday evening. A letter acknowledging the receipt of the committee’s letter to the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board regarding locks which had been put on the nurses’ bedrooms and charged for was received, and it was decided that when notification of the board’s decision was received, it should be left to the executive to decide what further action should be taken, should the reply be unfavourable. A letter was - received from the secretary of the Kaitangata branch of the New Zealand Labour Party, inviting speakers to address a meeting there on September s.—This invitation was accepted. The following resolution was moved ami carried unanimously:—“That this meeting of the Otago Labour Representation Committee endorses the action of those members of the British Labour Cabinet who stood loyally by the Labour Party principles and refused to follow Mr Ramsay MacDonald into the camp of the enemies of the working class for the purpose of carrying out the policy of the international group of banking institutions.”—Delegates spoke in no uncertain manner regarding the action of Mr MacDonald in thus ranging himself alongside the exploiters of the workers, especially at the very time when his action should have been the opposite. It was the opinion of the meeting that if, after the elections, the Labour Party came back strong enough to form a Government. Air MacDonald would not be its leader. A resolution was also carried condemning Mr Bartram’s action in accepting nomination as an Independent Labour candidate, when Air Lee bad already been selected to stand as the official Labour candidate for Grey Lynn. It was decided to make a strong protest to the Unemployment Board regarding the reducing of the number of davs in each week to be allotted to workers. The present system was considered to be most unjust.
