SEVEN-A-SIDE TOURNAMENT

LADIES’ REPRESENTATIVE MATCHES. The men’s senior seven-a-si<le hockey tournament was played at the Oval on Saturday under conditions which were unpleasant for players and spectators alike. There was a cold wind and the grounds were not in the best of order High School Old Boys succeeded in gain ing the honours of the day with an unbeaten record. The following are the results of the play:— First Round.—H.S.O.B. 2, City 1; University 1, Albany nil; Technical "Old Boys a bye. Second Round.—Albany 1, City nil; H. 5.0.8. 2, Technical Old Boys nil; University a bye. Third Round.—City 1, Technical Old Boys nil; H. 5.0.8. 1, University nil; Albany a bye. Fourth Round.—University 1, Technical Old Boys I; H. 5.0.8. 3, Albany 1; City a bye. Fifth Round.—City 2, University 1; Technical Old Boys 2, Albany nil; H. 5.0.8. a bye. The following table shows the positions oi the teams in the tournament: —

SENIOR REPRESENTATIVES. Subject to approval, the selector (Mr A. J. Hinton) has selected the following teams to represent Otago:— Otago v. Southland.—C. Sturgeon, C. Whitburn. R. Hanning. J. A practice fur all will be held on the Oval on Tuesday and Thursday at 5 p-.m. LADIES’ HOCKEY OTAGO DEFEATS NORTH OTAGO. Otago defeated senior and junior teams representing the North Otago Ladies 1 Sub-association in. two interestingg games at Logan Park on. Saturday. The senior match was won by 3 goals to nil and the junior game by 3 goals to I. SENIOR MATCH. The teams for the senior match were as follow:— North Otago.—Misses Lewis, J. Aitchesor, M. Matthews, H. Aitcbeson. E. Bedford, J’. Rawcliffe, K. Weavers 1 , N. Wills, A. "Wills, V. Cormack, H. Booth.

Otago.—Misses Johnson, Scott, Brown, Mackie, L. Vidal, I. Morris, Jolly, Butler, M. Scott, Muir.

The visitors attacked from the initial bully, but the local backs proved sound. A free hit allowed Miss Moir to get away on the left, but a North back relieved, to send her backs away. Miss Mackie held up the movement, an Otago forward rush broke down, and play hovered in midfield. Play was held up on account of an injury to Miss Wills. North attacked, and a shot went past the post. Play —again went to the centre. Otago took a turn at attack, and it was only good North Otago defensive play that kept the local forwards out. Play went to the North circle, and Miss Butler just missed with a good shot. Otago was having the best of things at this stage, but eould not finish off its efforts. A good forward rush found the Otago inside forwards ready to take a good centre from Miss Jolly, and Miss M. Scott scored. Otago 1, North Otago nil. The visitors came away in a good rush, but the local defence was sound. Play again went to midfield, and from a good combined rush Miss M. Scott again scored. Otago 2, North Otago nil. From the bully Otago again went to the visitors’ circle, and a lightning shot from Miss Scott found the net. The whistle called half time with the score: Otago 3, North Otago nil. Otago attacked in force at the commencement of the second spell, but the North Otago backs relieved to send their forwards away. A penalty corner to the North side resulted in a free hit to Otago.. Hie forwards got away, but North Otago came with a good rush. Otago relieved, and the forwards attacked, for Miss Scott to place outside. North Otago attacked with a good rush. Miss Johnson saved well, and Otago got away again. A penalty corner resulted in twenty-five bully. North Otago attacked, and a good shot went just outside. Otago came away, but the backs relieved, and North Otago made a good rush. Otago came again, but the North Otago backs were playing well, and sent their forwards away repeatedly. Otago

got away, and Miss Jolly’s shot went just outside. Miss Butler missed with a good shot. There was no further score, and the game ended: Otago 3. ; North Otago Nil. Messrs Chappell and L. Bradshaw ; were the referees. 1 JUNIOR GAME. j The junior game was commenced with ;a good passing rush by North Otago, but .it was beaten back by good back defence. After a great deal of cross play half time was sounded before either side had scored. The game was resumed, and after a great deal of forward cross play Otago scored. ■ r .fh -Otago bunched up, but owing to [ onside play a good chance was : missed. Otago cleared, and from a good centre again scored. North Otago then took charge, and. taking the ball right : though, scored. Play was continued, and [from a good forward rush Otago scored. Wellington’s equalising goal came in the final five minutes. WELLINGTON DEFEATS BUSH. PAHIATUA, August 25. In a representative men’s hockey match Wellington beat Bush by five goals to three. Goals for the victors were scored by Jeronison (3), Burton, and Sykes. For Bush, Ward scored two goals and B. Lett one.
