POSITION IN INDIA.
MR GANDHI’S ALLEGATIONS BREACHES BY GOVERNMENT. DELHI, August 20. The deadlock between the Government and Congress is no\x. regarded as complete following the publication by Mr Gandhi of a lengthy statement containing grave charges against the Government of breaches of the Delhi agreement, including the maltreatment of villagers by landlords during rent collection. Government officials are alleged to be guilty of connivance.
VICEROY VISITING SIMLA. DELHI, August 21.
The Viceroy (Earl Willingdon) and Sir James Crerar, a member of the Executive Council, left Calcutta for Simla suddenly yesterday, and the reason is believed to be in connection with developments in the political situation. The news of their coupled with wild rumours about the arrests of prominent Congress leaders, created-a scare on the Bombay Exchange, resulting in a heavy slump in values.
