SMITHFIELD PRICES

The hew Zealand Meat Producers Board has received the following cable from its London office, dated August -1, advising that the following are the approximate average prices realised for the week based on actual transactions of wholesale quantities of the descriptions 01 meat mentioned, and are for represents tive parcels of the goods offe-ing during the week, being for business done on the basis of delivered to Smithfield Market and/or ex London stores: — (Trices for the two previous weeks are also sii own).

Lamb Market: Lambs 2’s and B’s are very firm. Prices have hardened considerably, and consumption continues excellent. Heavy weight flrm at unaltered prices. Mutton Market: Firmer for light weight wethers and ewes, and prices have advanced. Heavy weight market firm, but quiet. Beef Market: Slightly better demand for frozen beef, but New Zealand beef spot stocks light. . N.Z. Porker Pigs: Rather more interest is being taken in light'weight pigs. N.Z. Baconer Pigs: Remain quiet.
