In a Supreme Court action, in which Arthur Gill claimed £390 from Schneideman and Sons, tailors and clothing manufacturers, for alleged wrongful dismissal,
the Chief Justice (Mr Justice Myers) at Wellington on Tuesday last gave judgment for the plaintiff, who was the manager of the defendants’ factory, for £260 damages, with costs.
“ It is really amazing the facilities that are offered men to obtain money by means of valueless cheques,’’ said the magistrate (Mr E. D. Mosley) at Christchurch on Tuesday in sentencing James Allen Hoban, aged 55, a salesman, to three months’ imprisonment on six charges of obtaining goods and money at Auckland, Wellington, and Palmerston North by valueless cheques.
