A unanimous decision to give preference to tenderers for British motor trucks was made by the Matamata County Council recently (says the Waikato Times). “ We should certainly support the country which takes the bulk of our dairy produce,” commented Cr W. H. Allen. “ Another thing—you can always depend on a British product being solid and reliable,” said Cr J. Moir. “ You cannot say that of other makes.” The British trucks the council decided to purchase were of a similar make to those which had given entire satisfaction in the past. Another example of modern business methods came to light recently (savs the Christchurch Sun). A well-known Christchurch man was before the court on a traffic charge, and in consequence, had his license cancelled for several months. When he returned to his office he found a man waiting to see him, a man who subsequently turned out to be the representative of a city taxi firm. The taxi man wanted to know if he could sign the other up with a contract to drive him to business every morning until the driving license was restored. Unfortunately it was not quite the right time to approach a man who had just been found guilty, and the taxi man’s smartness went unrewarded.
