FOREST HILLS TOURNAMENT.
THE WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP.
RESULT OF SEMI-FINALS.
NEW YORK, August 21. Mrs Helen Wills Moody advanced to the final of the singles, which will be played on Sunday, by defeating MisPhyllis Mudford, 6 —2, 6—4. Mrs Whittingstall also entered the final by defeating Miss Bettv Nuthall. 6—2, 3—6, 6—4.
Mrs Whittingstall and Miss Nuthall reached the doubles finals by defeating Miss Josephine Cruickshank and Mrs Van Ryu, 6 —3, 6 —2. Mrs Dorothy Round and Miss Helen Jacobs eliminated Miss Phyllis Mudford and Mrs Shepherd Barron, 6—2, 9 —7. to qualify for the final, which will be played on Monday owing to the fact that Miss Round, who is a minister’s daughter, refuses to play on Sunday.
THE NEWPORT TOURNAMENT PERRY AND HUGHES DEFEATED. NEW YORK, August 21. At Newport in the doubles quarter finals Perry and Hughes defeated Wood and Shields, 4 —6, 9—7, 6 —B, 6—l, 6—2. In the semi-finals Vines and Gle'dhill defeated Tidball and Stoeffen (both of Los Angeles), B—6, 6—4, 6—2. In the doubles semi-final Doeg and Lott defeated Perry and Hughes, 5—7, FINAL OF THE SINGLES. NEW YORK, August 22. At Newport Vines and Gledhill won the Doubles, defeating Doeg and Lott, 3— 6—3, 5—7, 13—11, 6—4. Vines defeated Perry in the final of the Singles, 6—2, 6—4, 6—B, 6—2. This was Perry’s first defeat in his present United States compaign. QUEENSLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS. CRAWFORD’S SUCCESSES. BRISBANE, August 23. In the State lawn tennis championships, J. Crawford, by defeating Hopman, 6—3, 6—4, 7—5, won the Men’s Singles title. Crawford and Mrs Crawford won the Mixed Doubles by defeating Hopman and Mrs Molesworth, 7 —5, 4— 6—3.
