TRIAL MATCH The two Otago representative teams wnicli were successful in their games against Wellington and Southland respectively staged a good game at Logan Park on Saturday in a trial match preparatory to the Football Association trophy game with Canterbury next Saturday at Dunedin. The teams were:—A: M'Dougall, Anderson, Cope, Perry, Brown (captain). Chapman, Duncan, M'Hugh, Hooper, M'Cormack, Skinner; B: Wills, Sutherland, Coatas. Gordon, Porter, Sutherland, Gorrie, Latimer, Groves, Moore, Woods. The smaller playing area made for faster play, and the 200 odd spectators were kept fully interested throughout. Both sides displayed good combination and the B team putting up a great fight had the A team fully extended in the first half, which ended in the latter's

favour with the scores 2—l. The first goal came from Brown, who took trie ball well through to Hooper, the latter showing good control in slipping Sutlierland and scoring with a fine drive. In alternate attacking movements, the A team displayed better finish. Wills, in goal, however, was safe. Groves, Latimer, and Gorrie on the B team’s right were troubling the opposition, and were almost through on one occasion, the defenders being luckj’ in getting off with a corner kick. Brown and Chapman were outstanding in the A team, and the great work of M'Cormack at inside-left made. c h IS i W » " Y ery dangerous. Skinner, who filled Balk’s position on the wing, had every opportunity to make headway, but Duncan on the opposite wing was starved, both M'Hugh and Perry doing little in’ t‘ ie w &y opening up play on the right. Ihe B team’s equalising goal followed good plaj' down the centre. Groves passing out to Woods, who crossed back to Latimer, the latter giving M'Dougall no chance. Within a few minutes of half time, Brown secured from a good kick, and placed to goal, where Hooper cut ,n on Coates to score his second goal. M ith the start of the second spell the A team dominated the play. C. Skinner making good use of an opening bj’ M'Cormack crossed to goal, and Coates failed to clear M'Hugh’s shot. 3 —l. From the kick-off Hooper practicallj’ went through ou his own to score the fourth goal, which he followed almost immediatelj’ with another one as the result of a good pass b.v M'Cormack. Sutherland cleared a further movement on B's goal, sending the ball well down to Woods. This player made clever work down the line, and slipping the ball through to Groves, the centre drove past M'Dougall. 5—2. The A team had been playing bright football, although weakness was apparent on the right, Duncan on this wing again having little of the ball. The B’s half line was showing up well against heavy odds, and forcing the attack, Groves and Latimer went through, a score almost resulting when a pass to Gorrie was sent to goal bj’ the winger. The ball, however, hit the crossbar and went over. Again the B’s returned to the attack, Gorrie and Latimer taking the ball through on the right. Cope failed to stop Gorrie, whose shot M'Dougall partially stopped, and Latimer being up with the play, scored. 5 —3. Towards the close Brown headed the sixth goal from a corner-kick taken b.v Skinner, and M'Cormack secured the final goal following a cross by Duncan. Mr F. G. Smith was referee, and the game ended: A team 7 goals. B team 3 goals. SECOND GRADE. Northern 10, Old Boys 1. Leith 3, Roslj'n-Wakari 2. SATURDAY’S MATCHES AUCKLAND. Falcon Cup.—North Shore 7.
