An appeal for the conservation of mutton-birds is issued by the New Zealand Native Bird Protection Society. It is stated that although the birds are still numftous, the fledglings are taken for food, while mutton-bird oil has been in demand. The society adds:—“lf commercialism gets the upper hand, the flocks may be so reduced in size that natural enemies will soon be able to accomplish the final destruction of these unique birds.”
