MELBOURNE, August 4. Youth was triumphant in the amateur foursomes title, which H. Williams (16) and R. Harris (20), with 155 for 36 holes, won, being five strokes fewer than the runners-up, M. Ryan and Sloan Morpeth. Edgar and Rule (the titleholders) finished sixth, with 166. SURPRISE IN FIRST ROUND. MELBOURNE, August 4. The first round of matches in the Victorian amateur golf championship was remarkable for the defeat of the veteran A. Jackson by a 16-year-old golfer, H. L. Williams, who gave a fine exhibition of driving and played his irons with mechanical accuracy, eventually winning by 4 and 3, After a great struggle at the thirty-seventh, F. Bulte eliminated the former open champion, Ivo Whitton, at the final hole. Sloan Morpeth defeated L. M‘Pherson 5 and 3. HOLDER REACHES THE FINAL. MELBOURNE, August 7. The semi-finals of the amateur title resulted:—Ryan beat Russell, 2 up; Williams beat Dalrymple, 3 and 1. Rvan is the present holder, and Williams is a 16-ycar-old youth. BOY WINS THE TITLE. MELBOURNE, August 7. Ihe Victorian Amateur Golf Championship was won by a 16-ycar-old boy, H. Williams, who defeated the title holder, M. Ryan, 4 and 3. Thus boys are champions of both New South Wales and Victoria. T^*. e " a s of a high order, and Williams was magnificent. The game ended dramatically. Williams had a difficult stance for his second stroke, but the ball hit the pin and stopped dead alongside the hole. He holed a birdie three to win the match. OTAGO CLUB. B. Ferguson beat J. Spence, 3 and 2; E. A. Reed won it'om S. C. Wilson by default; E. W. Gibbs beat E. G. Boddv, 3 and 1; J. C. Shand beat A. C. Begg. 3 and 2; W. G. Wight beat K. Ross, 6 and 5; w' M'Keehnie beat D. M. Irvine, 4 and 3; J. 11. M'Dougall beat P. N. Rundle, 5 and 3; R. W. Dick beat R. E. Hayward at the twenty-second. The St. Andrew’s Cross Competition was also played, the senior event being won by H. A. Salmon (81- —9 —72) and F. Halstcd (87 —18 —69) won the junior. Ihe fourth round <jf the Knock-out Competition and a Four-bail Bogey Handicap will be played next Saturday. ST. CLAIR CLUB. The St. Clair Golf Chib’s Four-ball Bogey Handicap drew a good entry at the Corstorphine links on Saturday, when conditions were fair, with a cold northerlj’ wind. The winning score of 4 up by A. J. P. Bostic and G. N. Fahey was a good effort. The following were the best cards returned:—A. J. P. Bestic and G. N Fahey, 4 up; C. B. Wight and F. V. Drake, 3 up; W. Clavton and G. North, 3 up: L.
