UNOCCUPIED HOUSES
HALF-YEAR’S RATES
WELLINGTON, August 4. A refund of £l4 5s 4d, being half rates paid in respect of two unoccupied houses at Eastbourne, was ordered by Air E. Page. S.AI., at the Alagistrate’s Court to-day when he delivered judgment in favour of J. R. E. Bennett, who claimed to recover that amount from the Eastbourne Borough Council. Under section 69 of the Rating Act. 1925, Air Page said it was provided that where any dwellinghouse or other building remained actually vacant and unoccupied for not less than six months in any rating year and the owner gave, notice to the local authority, he would be liable to pay only one-half of the amount of the year’s rates.
