SOUTH OTAGO CLUB’S MEETING. Considering the coldness of the day and the decidedly damp conditions under foot, the meeting o f the South Otago Coursing Club at Otanomomo on Saturday attracted .what must be regarded as a very satisfactory attendance. Seventeen dogs were entered for the two events on the card, representing both Dunedin and southland breeders in addition to those locally. The hares ran well, and some good coursing was seen, though in several cases the quarry was run to earth before it Had got far, this occurring in the final or both events. T l r Th 4 T w £P? r of the Maiden Stakes was xi r • Jackson’s Night Time, who beat Merrie Speck, owned by Mr R. Dickson, in a very short course. The All-age Stake went to Mr J. Smith’s High Comedy atter a rather disappointing course in the final with Mr J. Thatham’s Waikoura, who was left in the slips. The judging was carried out by Mr S. V. White, the slipper being Mr F. Mitchell. The following are the results: — MAIDEN STAKES. J - T Barron’s Scotch Heather (Heather Lad—Miss Fay slut) beat Mr C. James’s Merrie Minnie (Blue Speck— Merrie England). Scotch Heather led and turned, and did most of the work, though Merrie Minnie killed.

Mr Dickson s Night Time (Lupelite —Wild Time) beat Mr C. Marljs’s Gipsy Comedy (Grey Gipsy—Princess Comedy). Night Tune led and turned first, winning the course after a very even contest. * ” Mr R. Dickson’s Merrie Sp„ck (Blue bneck—Merrie England) beat Mr W Ed'™.rds’s Lucky Time (Lucky Laddie— Mild Time). Merrie Speck led, and did practically all the work, winning fairly easily. Messrs M’Pherson Bros.’ Play Boy .(Electric Mack—Splint) ran a bye. First Ties. Night Time beat Scotch Heather. This was a very long course, Night Time leading out and making the first turn. The hare put up a great run, with Night Timo doing practically all the work. Merrie Speck beat Playboy, leading to the hare by a length, doing most of the turning, and scoring much more freely than her opponent. Final. Night Time beat Merrie Speck. The winner led, turned, and killed the hare before it had gone far. ALL-AGE STAKE. Mr E. Jury s Lady Bell (Grey Gipsy-— Lady Belfast) beat Mr T. Rolf’s Miss Onyx (Osterman—Onyx). Ladv Bell led to the hare and did the bulk of the work, winning fairly easily. .Mr ?’ elfor d’s Princess Comedy (Hopeful Comedy—Miss Millie) beat Messrs M’Pherson Bros.’s Marinca (Gatling Gun —Ladv Lou). The winner beat Marinca to the hare, and turned, but both dogs fought it out fairly evenly from then on. Princess Comedy just managing to set home from Marinca. Mr F. Robertsons Gay Jim (Digger— Lou) beat Mr R. Dickson’s Miss Muric (Hopeful Comedy—Pride of Britain). Gay Jim lead out from the latter and won easily. Mr J. Thatham’s Waikoura (Hopeful Comedy—Cross Eyes), beat Mr R. Dickson’s Heroic (Thrilling Chapter—Lady Lou) Waikoura led by a length to the hare, which he turned. Heroic took up the running and for the rest of the course the work was-evenly divided. Mr J. Smith’s High Comedy- (Jester— Jolly Lass) beat Air M. Low’s Grand Jewel (Grand Slam- Gipsy Gem). During the first part of the course Grand Jewel was running unsighted. Very little real work was done, but High Comedy made most of the points. First Ties. Lady Bell beat Princess Comedy. The latter was first to the hare, but Lady Bell quickly took up the running, and after doing most of the work she killed the quarry. Waikoura beat Gay- Jim by a fairly narrow margin of points leading out, but from then on having a. hard battle with the loser. High Comedy ran a bye. Second Ties. High Comedy beat Lady- Bell. After leaving the enclosure the hare turned back. High Comedy was quickly out, and had led. turned, and killed the quarrybefore the course had been in progress for more than a few seconds. Waikoura ran a bye. Final. High Comedy beat Waikoura. The latter was left in the slips. High Comedy being first to the hare yvhich he turned. Waikoura, coining up from the rear, turned again, and High Comedy killed, winning the stake. PRIVATE MATCH. In a private match Merrie Minnie beat Grand Jewel. Grand Jewel led and turned, a long course ensuing in which Merrie Minnie did most of the work, eventually winning after one of the best runs of the day.
