After spending four months in visiting various groups of islands in the Pacific, H.M.S. Laburnum has returned to Auckland. During her cruise she travelled 8500 miles, and the islands visited included Tonga, Pago Pago, Penrhyn, Tahiti, Rarotonga, Niue, Samoa, and Fiji. The cruise was uneventful.
That the tui was a much better singei' than the nightingale was one of the remarks of the naturalist, Mr Johannes Andersen at the South School, Dannevirke, the other evening. He said many had heard the nightingale on a gramophone re* cord, but after hearing the tui he did not think much of the! nightingale. The tui was more of a singer in every way.
