MOTORIST COMMITTED FOR . TRIAL.

ASHBURTON, October 4. Arising out of an accident on May 22 last, in which Rachel Annie Highley was killed through a collision between a horse and trap and a motor car on the Cairn-brae-Methven road, Lawrence Thomas M'Kendry (the driver of the car) was charged at the. Methven court with having negligently driven a car, thereby causing the death of Rachel Annie Highley. He pleaded not guilty, and was committed for trial, bail being allowed in his own recognisance of £lOO, conditional in reporting to the police weekly. N E. Richards was fined £2O. and costs, for taking trout from the Righton River, Lake Coleridge, by spear and rifle. R. Counter and R. Redowski were each fined £5, and W. Going £2, for similar offences. All four were fined £2 each, and costs, for taking salmon in the closed season.
