ART SOCIETIES.

CONFERENCE IN WELLINGTON.

PROPOSED EXHIBITION IN ’LONDON. WELLINGTON, October 3.

A conference of delegates from various art societies in the Dominion was held to-day, the discussions being of an informal nature. One of the subjects is the proposal of the Royal British Colonial Society of Artists to hold in London next year a representative exhibition of art from all parts of the British Empire. The proposal is that the exhibition shall be held in the galleries of the Royal Academy of Arts for eight weeks, from early in January to the middle of March. The English organisation expects that there will be no difficulty in providing space for about 1600 pictures and bronzes, which is the average number accommodated in the rooms of the Royal Academy. Prior to this morning’s meeting, the Governor-General paid an unofficial visit to e Art Gallery, where the conference was being held. He received the members of the council and was introduced to delegates, after which he inspected the pictures.
