WOOL SALE.

POOR COMPETITION. A supplementary wool sale was held in Dunedin on Wednesday, when the offering (approximately 1400 bales) consisted principally of crutchings and oddments, with a few lots of fleece wool. Very few overseas buyers were present, and it was evident from the start of the sale that their orders were limited. The bulk of the competition came from the local buyers. From recent reports from London, brokers expected a considerable drop in values, but were not prepared to accept the prices offered, with the result that a big proportion of the catalogue was passed in, some lots eliciting no bid at all. Any fleece wool offering showed a drop from the July sale of lid to 2d per lb, while for pieces and crutchings the decline was much greater, and to effect sales from 2d to 3d per lb less than last sale’s rates had to be accepted. The following prices were realised: — FLEECE WOOL. First merino, to 9d; medium merino, 6d to 7d; first halfbred, to 9d; medium halfbred, 7Jd to 8d; inferior halfbred, 5d to 6£d; first fine crossbred, to 8d; first three-quarter-bred, to 7Jd; first crossbred, to 7£d; medium crossbred, 5Jd to inferior crossbred, 4Jd to sd; first crossbred pieces, to 6Jd; second pieces, JAd to 4Jd. CRUTCHINGS. Super crutchings, to sgd; good erutchings, 4d to 4fd; inferior crutchings, Id to 3d.
