HARVEY DEFEATS SHADE, LONDON, September 29. At the Albert Hall, the English middleweight champion, Len. Harvey, outpointed the American,, Dave Shade, in a 15 rounds bout. The winner is promised a world’s title match against the American, Mickey Walker.

Ihe ex-amateur heavy-weight, Desmond Jeanes. formerly a member of Dion Boucicault’s theatrical company which toured Australia, knocked out the Frenchman, Josef Thomas, in the third round of a six rounds bout. It was an exhilarating bout, in which the Frenchman was down for eight seconds in the second round.

TOM HEENEY DEFEATED. NEW YORK, September 29. At Wilkesbarre (Pennsylvania), Frank Cawley outpointed Tom Heeney in a 10round boxing bout.

JACK HAINES BEATEN. SYDNEY, October 5. At Sydney Stadium the Australian middle-weight champion, Jack Haines (11.6) was outpointed by Ambrose Palmer (11.6), of Victoria. It was a surprise to the big crowd to see the remarkable ringcraft of the Victorian, who staggered Haines in the seventh and eighth rounds with terrific rights. Haines was twice warned for using the “ shamrock.”

BROWN DEFENDS HIS TITLE. PARIS, October 5. The Panama negro, Al Brown, defending the world’s bantam-weight title, outpointed the French challenger, Eugene Haut.

Desmond Jes knocked out the Frenchman, Compere, in the second round of an eight round contest. Maurice Griselle knocked out Jack Stanley in the third round.

LECKIE DEFEATS GILLESPIE. NAPIER, October 5 Johnnie Leckie technically knocked out Norman Gillespie (Australia) in the thirteenth round at Napier last night m a contest in which the Australian although taking his punishment very pluekily, was seldom in the picture. GRIFFITHS DEFEATS CROWLEY. Tommy Griffiths and Jack Crowley fought at Ashburton on Friday evening. The contest went the full distance, and Griffiths won on points, having matters in his favour practically all the way.

OTAGO UNIVERSITY TOURNAMENT.

The Otago University Boxing Club held a combined novice and interfaculty tournament at Manama Hall on Tuesday evening. The tournament was held under the control of the Otago Boxing Association. Mr Don Paterson was the referee and Messrs Peter Torrie and Peter Young were the judges. The contests were of three two-minute rounds. NOVICE FEATHER-WEIGHTS. W. C. Thomson 9.0 beat G. Cowie 9.0. LIGHT-WEIGHTS. F. Kibblewhite 9.7 beat J. Harris 9.11. A. Graham 9.13 and G. Dudley 10.0. who were drawn for a bye. boxed a nodecision contest. W. T. Dunne 10.0 beat R. A. Simons 9.10 Kibblewhite beat Dudley. Dunne beat Graham. NOVICE WELTER-WEIGHTS. W. T. Dunne 10.0 beat A. Townsend 10.7. FEATHER-WEIGHTS. JR. G. Wilson 9.0 beat E. Watts 9.3. CRUISER-WEIGHTS. W. S. Gilkison 12.0 beat W. H. Johnson 11.13. MIDDLE-WEIGHTS. T. C. Sutherland 11.4 and J. Lumsden 11.4 fought a no-decision contest.

M'GLASHAN COLLEGE TOURNAMENT.

The annual boxing tournameiit of the John M'Glashan College was held on Friday evening in the college hall. The programme, which comprised 18 bouts of three one-and-a-half-minute rounds, was a particularly lengthy one, but so ad mirable were the general arrangements and management of the tournament that the contests- were completed in a little over two hours. The boxing throughout was of a good standard, and the ma jo rity of the bouts were very keenly eon tested, considerable amusement being caused by the exhibition given by two diminutive but remarkably plucky mos-quito-weights, Lucas and Baker, who .fought one another all over the ring with remarkable vim, and without letting up for an instant. The holder of the championship (which carries with it the Pear son Cup) lost his title to A? M. H. Burnside after a fehort, sharp bout which lasted only half a minute. Mr V. .Parker was referee for the bouts, and he had associated with him as judges Messrs Doug. Paterson and P. Young. The results were as follow:— JUNIOR. ' H. Cameron 7.5 beat R. Watson 7.0. JUNIOR 11. R. Armstrong 5.4 beat R. Wilson 5.2. INTERMEDIATE I. H. Ramsay 7.10 beat J. Langford 8.12.

Final. Ramsay beat A. Baxter 9.0. Again up against an opponent inuclj heavier than himself, Ramsay gave a good exhibition, and, keeping a beautiful left going, he took the bout fairly comfortably. INTERMEDIATE 11. T. R. Walker 8.3 beat J. M'Lean 7.8. J. Carson 8.2 beat A. Drake 7.10. Final. Carson beat Walker, Both lads went at it merrily from the & on g, but Walker tired badly in the second round, and the jeferee stopped the fight and awarded the decision to Carson. v SENIOR 111. 91 beat J - Ross 10.7.. K. W. Baker, a bye. Final. Baker 9.5 beat Smith. Baker did the greater part of the leading and in the first two rounds established a handy lead on points, SENIOR 11. C. M'Kenzie 9.13 beat A. M‘Q. White 10.6. A. Pannett 10.4 beat A. Stevenson 9.8, FINAL. Pannett beat M'Kenzie. The winner bored in from the start and administered such severe punishment to his opponent that the referee stopped the fight at the end of the first round. SENIOR I. A. W. Brookfield 11.4 beat C. Moore 10.12. K. L. Anderson 10.7 beat A. Bell 10.fi. FINAL. Anderson beat Brookfield. This was another bout of short dura*tion, Anderson winning on a technical knockout in the first round.
