JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS. A meeting of early settlers who arrived at Port Chalmers by the ship Auckland was held in the Early Settlers’ Hall last week. Mr Malcolm M'Lennan occupied the chair. There was also a fair representation of descendants. The object of the meeting was to make arrangements for the celebrating of the jubilee of the vessel’s arrival. Mr. M'Lennan said that widespread interest was being exhibited in the proposal b.v people in all parts of Otago, and it was anticipated that many others from other parts of New Zealand would be pYesent at the celebrations. Included in the programme of functions will be a reunion in the Early Settlers' Hall. This will be followed by a social gathering in the evening. On Sunday evening, November 16, a special service will be conducted in First Church by the Rev. W. A. Stevely. The functions on the Saturday have been made possible by arrangement with the proprietor of the Wembley Club (Mr P. J. Hackett), who had kindly agreed to allow’ the hall to be used. A.small committee has been set up to arrange a programme for the opening function, and a further meeting will be held on October 13 at 7.30 p.m. It was decided that the secretary (Mr T. Begg) should circularise all passengers and others interested asking them to advise whether they will be present on November 15 and 16, and if so to forward a subscription of 5s to the treasurer (Mr A. Mitchell).
