This, apparently, is the day of the Maori in winter sport in Gisborne, for the three main championships have gone to all-Maori teams (remarks the Poverty Bay Herald). Y.M.P. ladies led the way by coming out on top in the hockey championship, then Y.M.P. won the Rugby final. The third Maori victory came when the Waerenga-a-h:ka Native College won the men’s hockey final. This is not the first occasion the Y.M.P. men and the Waerenga-a-hika boys have won their respective championships, but with all three coming together the high standard of efficiency that Maoris have attained in sport < is demonstrated in a remarkable manner.
