HEAVY FINE IMPOSED. AUCKLAND, October 4. “ The public mind is greatly exercised concerning offences of : this kind,” said the magistrate (Mr F. K. Hunt) in fining Josiah Alonso Holroyd, aged 45 £4O for being intoxicated in a car. Holroyd was described by witnesses, including a detective, as an habitually sober man and a careful driver. He is employed as a bus driver by the Auckland Transport Board, but when arrested was in a private car. The defendant took out a prohibition order, and the magistrate placed him on purobation foy six months to enable him to pay the fine by instalments. "" - ■
