MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the commit tee of the Otago A. and P. Society was held in the board room on Thursday afternoon, and was attended by Messrs James Begg (president, in the chair), W. 0. M'Kellar, A. M'Kinnon, A. Johnson, R. T. Kirk, F. J. Conn, John Mee, E. C. Hazlett, G. Ross, D. Andrew, H. Turner A. M‘Kay, S. Bowman,-John Young, and J. VV. Blair. On the motion of the pre sident, Mr H. Howat was elected a member of the committee, and a hearty welcome was extended to Mr F. J. Conn Accounts amounting to £143 6s 2d. as detailed m the accounts register, were passed for payment.

The committee recommended that the sum of £3 3s be given to the St. John Ambulance Association as a slight appreciation of the services rendered by its nurses at the Summer and Winter Shows,—Approved.

The tender of Messrs F. and N. Suck ling for the covering of the Brydone Hall roof for the sum of £173 12s 6d was accepted.—The chairman reported that they had received a report of the condition of the roof, and it was evident that it required attention. An application by Mr A. Hesse to run a night carnival at Tahuna Park during Show Week was left in the hands of the Executive, Grounds, and Finance Committees to complete arrangements should they consider the proposal worthy of being carried out. The committee reported that it had added two special -classes to the schedule for the best trotter' and pacer to be judged on type, soundness, action, and manner.—lt was decided to approve of the recommendations, and that the Forbury Park Trotting Club be asked to nominate two men as judges from whom a selection of one could be made.

A suggestion that the jumps should be placed at a sufficient distance from the picket fence to allow the parade of stock, pony trots, and other competitions to he carried out was referred to the Competition Committee to report.

The secretary read a letter to the town clerk of Dunedin in reference to arranging for the conveyance of stock on the Tahuna Park line for the Sum mer Show.—The letter was approved, and it was decided that a deputation should wait on the Tramway Committee in reference to the fares charged to and from Tahuna Park at show time. The secretary submitted a list of the judges who had consented to act, and the question of completing the list was held over until the next meeting of committee.

The Canterbury A. and P. Society wrote advising that it was anxious to encourage young judges to come forward, and asked if the society would nominate three young men for the Clydesdale section who would be sufficiently interested to accept the position.—After some discussion, in which the general opinion was that the proposal was a good one, the following names were recommended: —Messrs Jack Blair (Outram), S. Young (Outram), and W. Allison (Clarksville).

Some members expressed their opinion that the numbers on the horses at the horse parade were too small, and suggested that much larger tickets should be obtained.—This was referred to the Horse Committee for a report. Mr Adam King, of Balclutha, wrote tendering his resignation as a member of committee owing to his being unable to attend the meetings.—Mr King’s resignation was accepted with regret, and the seertaary was instructed to convey the committee’s appreciation of his services during the many years that he had been on the committee.
