CONVEYANCE OF SHEEP.

A SHORTAGE OF TRUCKS.

WELLINGTON, September 24. The shortage of trucks for. the conveyance of sheep was pointed out by Mr T. D. Burnett (Reform member for Temuka) when the Estimates of the Railways Department were under discussion in the House of Representatives to-day. Mr Burnett explained that every autumn there was a great shortage of trucks in South Canterbury, and as a result many thousands were lost in revenue by the department. He suggested that the difficulty might be overcome by the conversion ,of L tracks into sheep trucks. The work of converting them would also provide work for men in the workshops. The Minister of Railways (Mr W. A. Veitch) said there were no L trucks to

epare for conversion as suggested. A considerable sum was to be spent this year on rolling stock, and provision. was piade for the construction of sheep trucks k> make up the present shortage.
