CHARGE OF WIFE MURDER.
TOWNSEND AGAIN REMANDED. NEW PLYMOUTH, September 24. Alexander Townsend, charged with the murder of his wife, Cora' Alice Townsend, appeared on remand in the Magistrate’s Court this morning, and was further remanded till October 7,. when it is understood the hearing will be proceeded with. . .
The deceased, who resided at Fitzroy, was-found dead in her house severely cut about the throat. A New Plymouth teie-
gram of last Wednesday stated that it appeared that the man arrested walked to Waitara carrying a loaded shotgun, hired a taxi, went to the house of a factory manager at Oneroa, Mr F. Huse, where a sister-in-law, Mrs Huse, lived. Later, he drove to Urenui. Mr Huse advised the Waitara police, and Constable La Pouple, who reached the house at Oneroa as the man returned, handcuffed him. The latter resisted, but was brought to New Plymouth. The gun was in the car, but it had been unloaded by the taxi driver.
