A rare species of shark, the porbeagle, was found on the coast near Okehu, Wanganui. Messrs Shepherd and J. Patterson, of the Wanganui Museum, secured the skin. The porbeagle is very rare in New Zealand waters, and there is only one specimen on exhibition in New Zealand, and that is in the Dunedin Museum.
