Owing to the lower market values, and also probably to a decline in the quality of the pelts, opossum trapping throue! out the Hawera registration district decreased to a marked degree during the season just closed (states the Star). The season closed on September 2, but trappers are allowed until September 30 to register the pelts. So far, the total recorded at the registration office at the Hawera police station is 891, as compared with the total of 2183 last season.
“ The weather Australia is having today New Zealand will probably have tomorrow or in two or three days,” said the Government Meteorologist (Dr E. Kidson), in an address on the work of the Meteorological Office the other evening in Wellington.
