Dove, Dr ewlands, Miss Runciman, and Mrs Walter Ross. Mr J. S. Skinner (president of the-Re-turned Soldiers’ Association) and Mr J. M. White (secretary) waited on the board to place the views of the association before it in regard to the burial of an overseas soldier who had died in Dunedin.—Mr Skinner said that this soldier had served in the Great War and bad been in the Indian Army. The deceased had no relatives in New Zealand and the association thought that a man with so good a record should receive decent burial. The association had taken steps to have him buried in the soldiers’ plot in Anderson’s Bay, and it thought that the board should pay part of the cost of t the -funeral.—The chairman said that the board had a duty in providing funerals for indigent people, but it also had a policy where the burial was carried out by other bodies. Whether the board would depart from its usual policy, and pay the difference between the cost it would have been required to pay and the cost incurred by the association he could not sav. but he could assure the association that every consideration would be given to the case. —The matter was referred to the Benevolent Committee with power to act.
