First Day—Thursday, September 25. The Geraldine Racing Club’s meeting was opened in fine weather, and attracted an attendance rather above the average. The track .was a bit on the soft side, and slow

Pangolin and Gala Day led Star Stranger II to the first hurdle, where the field had already strung out. Coming to the stand hurdle Gala Day was showing the way to Pangolin, Gay Fashion, and Star Stranger 11, with the others, except Troilus, several lengths aWay. Pangolin took charge and led along the back from Gala Day, Gay Fashion, Star Stranger 11, and Troilus. Gay Fashion fell at the second last hurdle. Pangolin had drawn well clear coming round the top, and won easing up by six lengths from Troilus, who beat Haze by four lengths, with Star Stranger II a. head away, and Gala Day next. Tray Bond led Al Jolson and Night- Recital coming round the top. Tray Bond led into the straight, but Al Jolson wore her down and- won by a length. Semper Paratus, Starshooter, and High Court led into the back stretch, but the firstnamed then lost place and dropped back. Starshooter, Black Mint, and Town Major were showing the way to the far turn. The order was the same coming round the top, where Don Jose was making a forward move. Starshooter and Black Mint led into the straight from Town Major. Black Duke, and Don Jose. Black Mint took charge inside the distance, and stalling off a late run from Malmsey, beat her half a length. Don Jose was the same distance away third. The field was in close order after going half, a mile, and they turned into the straight with Pronto Bingen, Colorado, Master Don, Doll Dance, and Royal Chenault showing the way. Pronto Bingen broke before leaving the straight and Colorado shortly-after entering the back stretch. Doll Dance,-Alaster Don, Great D’Oro, and Red Shiner led to the far turn, with Royal Chenault handy and Ayrmont Chimes moving up. Red Shiner and Great D’Oro led into the straight, where Ayrmont Chimes moved up fast, and, taking charge, won by a neck from Royal Chenault, who got out of a bad position at the home turn and finshed fast. Red Shiner was three lengths away and Great D’Oro and Pronto Bingen were next. Times: 3min 45 l-ssec, 3min 50 2-ssec, 3min 49 l-ssec.

Arrowmir led out from Full Fling, and the latter seemed to get cut out by the former in the first furlong. Arrowmir led to the far turn, with the others bunched and on to the home turn. Silver Coot joined Arrowmir inside the distance, and Rascal made a forward move, while Full Fling was badly placed on the rails. Silver Coot finished on and won by a long neck from Rascal, beat Arrowmir by the same distance On Top and Full Fling were close up Time, Imin 17 2-ssec.

Kentish Lady was well behind the line at the start. Painkiller was smartest away, with Night Effort, Audience, and Mmerval. Some Toff and Alount Boa had joined the leaders going along the back, where Colonel Quex was sent back. Painkiller, Night Effort, Minerval Some Toff and Mount Boa led to the far turn, where -he last-named got squeezed back. Passing the stand Aviatrix, Real Giri Belle Lorrimer, Automatic, and Nor’wester were bunched in front of the field Leal Girl took charge from Aviatrix after entering the back, but Nor’-wester ran up to the front and led round the top from Automatic, Real Girl, and Rawhiteroa, who broke. Once in hue for home Real Girl raced to the front and beat Nor’-wester by two lengths. The last-named led Beau Geste to the far turn where Evening moved up to the leaders. Miss Mercia led Evening and Royal Game into the straight with Desert Song next. Once in the straight Desert Song raced to the front and won full of running by two lengths from Evening, who beat Royal Game by a length. Beau Geste -was next. Time, Imin 45 l-ssec.

Second Day—Saturday, September 27. The meeting was concluded in sunshine and showers. Following rain over-, night the track was heavier- than on the opening day. The attendance, with the assistance of the half-holiday in Timaru, proved to be one of the best ever seen on the course. The meeting could be considered a success apart from the starting, which was the subject of general adverse criticism. ' During the day £10,218 10s went through the totalisator as against £7926 last year. The total for the meeting amounted to £19,007, as against £18,201 last year, and proved the first meeting of the season to show an increase on the previous season. Also started: 3 Troilus 11.2, 5 Orifiamb 9.9, 6 Gold Knight 9.0. Pangolin and Star Stranger II drew out from the others and showed the way to the stand hurdle, where Gold Knight dropped his rider. Pangolin and ■ Star Stranger 11, who was jumping badly, opened up a good lead. Going along the back Pangolin came away from Star Stranger 11, and Haze was making, up ground across the top. Pangolin finally won by eight lengths from Haze, who beat Star Stranger II by four lengths. Troilus was a bad fourth, and Orifiamb ran last nearly all the way. Time, 3min, 15 2-ssec. Once in line for home Royal Love came on and won by two lengths from Royal Limond, who beat Night Recital by a head. Silver Salver was half a length back. Home Coming and Nightdew were next. Colorado lost his rider in the back stretch, and interfered with Real Girl. Great d’Oro led Eiffelton Lass, Pronto Bingen, Ruth Logan. an Lord Matchlight into the straight. Ruth Logan then raced to the front and won by two lengths from Eiffelton Lass, who beat Lord Matchlight three lengths. Rascal joined Uesert bong as they came round the top. with Black Duke next. Once into the straight Starshooter moved up to the leaders, but Desert Song stalled them off, and won by two lengths from Rascal, who beat Starshooter by half a length. Kentish Lady 7.12, 5 Miss Tembaron car 7.0 and Colonel Quex 7.10, 11 Last Mark rar 7.1. 8 Painting 7.4, 6 The Dove car

Assemble, The Dove, and Painkiller were smartest out from Some Toff, whilst Colonel Quex and Alias Tembaron were last to leave. Assemble and The Dove led Painkiller and Some Toff along the back. Assemble and The Dove opened a gap of four lengths from Painkiller coming round the top. Painkiller joined the leaders at the turn, and had them beaten when Some Toff came with a strong run, and won by a neck. Assemble was two lengths away, with The Dove and Kentish Lady next. Semper Paratus and Royal Game cannoned, and were the last to leave. Alount Boa opened up a six lengths’ lead going along the back, and led Black Duke and Royal Game coming round the top. Royal Game drew to the front in the straight, and won by a length from Black Duke, who beat Alount Boa by three lengths. Miss Alarcia and First Raid were next. Time, Imin 50 3-5 s c.

HAWKE’S BAY JOCKEY CLUB. Saturday, September 27. The spring meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club was held in fine weather on a good course before a fair attendance. Kahikatoa was the early leader from Whakaari and Sir Limond. Running down the back stretch Fitzquex ran to the front and was the first to turn for home from Kahikatoa. Whakaari, and Sir Limond. In the run home Kahikatoa came through to win by a head, with a length between second and third. Sir Limond was fourth. Time. Imin 58sec. HAWKE’S BAY GUINEAS. Tawhairoa, while schooling on the Hastings tracks this morning, fell at a fence, breaking his off foreleg above the knee, and had to be destroyed. Vaals, the winner of the Epsom Handicap in 1927, has been sold for stud duty at Wairea estate, at Hokianga. He is the first Valais horse to go to the Dominion.

SYDNEY, September 27. On the course proper at Randwick this morning Paquito and Balloon King were together at the end of a mile, covering the distance in Imin 44sec. In the Shade defeated Vali over a similar distance in Imin 43sec. First Sight beat Dunraven over seyen furlongs in Imin 29sec. Waterline and Axinius covered 11 furlongs in 2min 31sec, while Gesto and Killarney easily led Dominant at the finish of seven furlongs, which took Imin 30see. Papatu beat Cool Jester in a "fast sprint. Phar Lap easily accounted for eight furlongs run in Imin 464 sec. Gesture ran four in 50sec. Limerick traversed a mile in Imin 54sec on the bit on the tan, where Concentrate led Gay Crest over the same dis'tance, the time being Imin 43sec.
