FULL NAVAL HONOURS.

BURIAL OF MR H. M'NEISH.

LINK WITH SCOTT AND SHACKLE TON.

WELLINGTON, September 26

With full naval honours, the remains of Mr Harry M'Neish, who was a member of two Antarctic expeditions. Scott’s and Shackleton’s, and also served 23 years in the Royal Navy, were laid to rest in the Karori Cemetery to-day draped with the Union Jack. Tbe coffin was borne on a gun carriage with riders provided by the New Zealand Royal Artillery, with four naval pallbearers on each side, and naval mourning. The detachment was under the command of Lieutenant Lovegrove. The cortege was preceded by a naval firing party from the Dunedin.

The service was conducted by the Rev. W. Shirer, and among those present were Major Wilson (secretary of the Returned Soldiers’ Association), Mr R. Darroeh (secretary of the Navy League for New Zealand), Mr W. B. Hicks (superintendent of the Ohiro Home) ; representing the Wellington Hospital Board, an inmate of the house; three representatives of the Wellington Shipwrights’ Union who worked with the deceased at the Thames Ironworks, London, some years ago; Mr A. Pepper, who was a midshipman on the relief ship Morning, which went to the relief of the Discovery. in 1902-4, and Mr C. Glidden, an able seaman on the Aurora, one of Sir Ernest Shackleton’s expedition ships which went to the Ross Sea. At the conclusion of the service by the graveside three volleys were fired over the grave, and the “ Last Post ” was sounded. Floral tributes were received from the commander, officers, and men of the Dunedin, from the deceased’s workmates at the New Zealand Shipping Company, from the inmates and staff of the Ohiro Home, and from the Naval League.
