FIRES.
BLAZE IN AUCKLAND.
AUCKLAND, September 27.
Members of a Mount Eden family had just time to scramble out of the windows of their home in Stokes road a* 3 o’clock this morning when it was discovered to be a mass of flames. J. Paul, a tenant of the house, was awakened by his wife, and both could hear the crackling of flames. The family escaped through the window’s with great difficulty, being nearly overcome by heat and blinded by smoke. The house was destroyed. It was insured in the Phoenix Office for £650, and the furniture for £3OO in the London, Liverpool, and Globe Office.
OUTBREAK IN NEWSPAPER OFFICE.
GREYMOUTH, September 27.
An outbreak of fire in the Greymouth Argus’s newspaper building this morning damaged paper rolls, the roof, and partitioning wall. The damage is estimated at about £5OO.
