Confidence in the ultimate success of British rule in Palestine was expressed by the Rev. S. A. Goldstein in a sermon preached in the Auckland Synagogue on Wednesday, in connection with the observance of the Jewish New Year. The ser vice was conducted by Mr Goldstein and the Rev. J. Adler, who recently arrived from England. Referring to recent events in Palestine, Mr-Goldstein said the sympathy of the British Government with the Zionist movement was wellknown. Any differences which might arise between the Jews and the Arabs would be successfully overcome through the goodwill of the British Government and the spirit of the Jewish people. The outspoken comments against the Jews by Herr Hitler, Leader of the National Socialist Party in Germany, were referred to by Mr Goldstein. He said it came as a shock to people that in the year year 1930 such statements could come from a so-called enlightened country like Germany. It would be a terrible blow if Jews were deprived of the rights so Ipng enjoyed and if they were discriminated against by legislation.
