Thursday, May 2— Nothing daunted, the brave trio persevered with their physical jerks. They did a little bannister sliding, and a little business with a tea-tray on the stairs . . . they didn’t seem to feel things quite so much as they did at first! Exercise was making a man of Peter, so Patty said, and Pip was much more of a dog than he used to be! Patty herself was growing a great sport . . . and so the bruises didn’t matter!

Friday, May

At last the great day arrived when they felt they could climb the tree without fear. Falls, bumps, and bruises were nothing to these heroes, and they determined to copy Pussy or die! Patty placed herself in much the same position as Mrs Cat had been on the day she had the idea of physical jerks. Peter joined her, and the two scrambled over the branches and leapt from bough to bough until the tea bell rang. Alas and alack! It didn’t seem half so jolly when they looked at their clothes! Would you dare to face YOUR Nanny in this state?

It sno fun sitting in bed whilst your clothes are being mended and hearing other children at play! Butter wouldn’t melt in their mouths NOW! Because, you see, they are living on bread and water, and they have had to promise faithfully and painfully that they’ll be terribly gloomy and good in future. So good, Patty declared, that they.would go straight to school every day; never look to the right nor to the left; never play games; and never, never, NEVER imitate the cat ... at least until next week!
