PREVENTION OF CRUELTY.

MEETING OF SOCIETY.

A meeting of the Executive Committee of the Otago Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held on Tuesday in the board room of the secretary (Mr E. S. Wilson). Mr J. Crosby Morris presided, and there were also present: Mrs Porteous and Messrs W. D. Snowball, A. D. Sutherland. J. M’Gregor. T. Elliott, W. T. Mathewson, and the Rev. W. Saunders.

The report of the inspector (Mr J. Craig) detailed the places visited and matters dealt with since the previous meeting.—The report was adopted. The secretary read figures dealing with the number of “ bobby ” calves killed in Otago in a year.—There was some discussion on the question of the feeding of the calves and the possibility of their being cruelly treated before reaching the slaughter yards.—The inspector was instructed to inquire further into the matter and report to the next meeting.

A letter was received from the railways district traffic manager (Mr B. R. Sword) stating, in reply to a communication from the society, that all possible care was used in the handling of cattle.— Received.
